Macaulay student only - PAID Research Assistantship Opportunity

Macaulay Research Assistantship Program

Are you looking for excellent student Research Assistants this Fall?

Macaulay Honors College is very pleased to continue the Macaulay Research Assistantship Program, matching faculty with students looking for research opportunities.

If you are interested in finding a student for a research project for Fall 2023, please complete the online application at the bottom of this message. We’ll post a description of your research opportunity and announce to students through our Career Services tool, Handshake. There is no deadline but we recommend posting opportunities at least a month before the desired start date.

Expectations:

  • It is essential that faculty make clear expectations to students in regards to type of work, schedule, duration, etc. We recommend a schedule of 10-12 weeks minimum, 10-20 hours maximum per week during the academic year and 6-10 weeks minimum. All materials necessary for the work must be supplied by the faculty.  To avoid misunderstandings, students should know what they’re signing on for, as much as possible.
  • We hope this will benefit faculty, but even more we want it to be a substantive learning experience for students. We hope that students will be able to learn how to conduct research in a particular field and acquire new skills as part of this program.
  • Students who are matched through this program agree to present the work accomplished at the Macaulay Scholars Research Expo expected to be held in January of 2024.

Students may be paid for their work by applying through the Macaulay Opportunities Fund. If you have funding for your project to hire research assistants, please let us know. In all instances, faculty will need to certify hours worked.

We are very pleased to offer students the opportunity to work with the best faculty at CUNY and hope you are interested in participating.

We ask that when faculty have chosen a Macaulay student research assistant, they notify us. This is so that students’ Macaulay advisors can approve their participation prior to starting the program.

If you have questions, please reach out to Emily Jimenez, Assistant Director of Career Development at : Emily.Jimenez@mhc.cuny.edu

Best wishes,
Veronica
