Minions at work in the Corthals Lab* So you want to join the Corthals lab? We don't blame you, we're pretty awesome. But do you have what it takes to be a minion? Find out here, at the Corthals Lab: Join the Lab page .  The Corthals Lab also works in close collaboration (you can say as one giant lab) with the Davalos Lab at Stony Brook University, Dept of Ecology and Evolution, so you may want to check their webpage too!   Despicable Me™, Universal Studios - YouTube * Gif from Despicable Me 2™, Universal Studios - retrieved from http://imgur.com/gallery/chKPlry

A Grand Day Out - before the semester starts

Image
The Corthals and Dávalos labs got one last grand day out before the madness of the Fall semester starts! Minions and their evil masters ate their way to Orient Point State Park! As you can see, we work hard, we play hard! :) First stop: Lobster rolls at Riverhead's famous Lobster Roll Northside First stop: Lobster rolls at Riverhead's famous Lobster Roll Northside First stop: Lobster rolls at Riverhead's famous Lobster Roll Northside Then BEACH TIME!!!! Orient Point State Park - Carlos is striking a pose while Paul found a great way to apply sunscreen! Orient Point State Park: Laurel knows how to beach in style! Pretty much the entire Corthals lab in the water! (Almost - missing Bridgette and Laura) The Corthals-Davalos labs be us! Sure the sign says "5-12 yo only" - but we are all children at heart... Paul demonstrates mad selfie skills! Of course, we can't just start with Lobster Roll without

Freak weather event at Stony Brook - mark of a climate that is undeniably changing

This week has been particularly eventful at the Corthals-Dávalos lab, following a freak storm unleashing winds up to 90 mph *just shy of a cat. 2 hurricane*. The result? See below: Ain't got no driveway... Fire department on the job The streets after the storm Hail still there the next morning... The little grill that could (survive a storm, despite the giant oak falling but a mere 5 inches from it) Large, beautiful oak - now fallen Utilities ripped Beautiful white pine, healthy but now fallen, snapped like a matchstick - one of four beautiful fallen trees

A very brief stay at the Stony Brook Medicine BioBank for John Jay minion Laura, who performed a great job by QA/QCeeing specimens from the legacy collection. We thank you for your service! Hard at work, hunched over LN2! Hard at work!

A strange lab meeting where all minions were shuffled across John Jay and Stony Brook!  Erica is looking utterly dubious as to what the WTF is going on... Why are minions at Stony Brook??? What is this??? Bridgette is taking it all in strides however...   That's right! We're in scrubs and we're at Stony Brook for this lab meeting! Oh cool then!
