The BAEF awards annually up to 11 Fellowships to American students or researchers. In addition to the stipend, the BAEF will provide health insurance.

Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States.

Knowledge of Dutch, or French, or German is optional.

Applicants should make their own arrangements to register or affiliate with a Belgian university of research institution.

  • Non-renewable grant for 1 academic year (12 months)

BAEF fellowships 2024-2025 should start in the Fall 2024. Fellows should be in residence in Belgium during the tenure of their fellowship and stay for a period of 12 months.

Research in Belgium

Research stay:
  • Non-renewable grant for a period of 12 months
  • Doctoral researcher : stipend $29,000
  • Post-doctoral researcher : stipend $33,000
  • Health insurance
BAEF research fellowships 2024-2025 can be initiated between July 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024. Fellows should be in residence in Belgium during the tenure of their fellowship and stay for a period of 12 months. If the Fellow chooses to remain in Belgium for less than 12 months, the stipend will be prorated accordingly. The minimum fellowship period is 6 months.

Eligibility
Graduate study Fellowship for Graduate study in Belgium Requirements:
  1. Be citizen or permanent resident of the United States
  2. While holding the BAEF Fellowship register in a graduate program ( Master’s or PhD.) at a Belgian University or higher institution
  3. Submit official transcripts as evidence of outstanding Bachelor’s and Master’s degree record

Research Fellowships for Research in Belgium Requirements:
  1. Be citizen or permanent resident of the United States
  2. Doctoral applicants have to be registered in a Ph.D. or equivalent degree program in the United States
  3. Post-doctoral applicants have to hold a Ph.D. degree and by July 1, 2024 have no more than 2 years since obtaining their Ph.D.
  4. Submit official transcripts as evidence of outstanding Bachelor’s and Master’s degree records
